Prejudice, Discrimination, and The Oakies

1) Some of the causes for prejudice against The Okies were that they were competing with the locals for jobs, they were taking food-not much but still- out of the locals mouths, they were really overcrowding cities, and raising taxes. They came into California expecting more jobs than they could possibly imagine but that was really not the truth. They were eating food that they bought, stole, or killed and that took food from the locals. When they arrived in California they moved into cities which greatly increased the population, which in turn increased demand and lowered supply. When The Okies came they drove up property tax by 50%.

2) A lot of the prejudice that I see in todays world comes from the gay community. People are discriminating against them because they are different than other people. Politicians and normal every day people don't agree with their life style and don't give them the rights they deserve. Some causes for this prejudice comes from the how some churches don't believe that their beliefs are acceptable. Another cause is that what people teach thier children, not directly but through action, is that the normal couple is a man and a woman.

Life As A Teenage Hobo

Filthy Jeans Jamal is my name but they call me "Nails" on account of the fact that I'se always carryin' a 2x4 with a nail in it. A day for me starts with a bucket of water splashin' in my face and bein' chased off by a bull with a pistol or a cane sword. Either way I end up pretty beat up, I don't think the bulls have it in th
em to shoot a kid so I just come out of it bein' all bruised, battered, or pretty cut up. I'se aint
' afraid to ruff up the bulls even though they're bulky and fat. After fighting the bulls its onto another train. Usually I can make it into a train goin' west because thats where every one say
s there is no dust storms tearin' up the soil puttin' er'vr'ybody outta' work. For the past 4 months I been ridin' the rails in search of work. I'se started in Arkansas and now I been to Oklahoma, Texas and New Mexico. But all the while I never find nobody who is willin' to help a guy out.
As for the family situation me and my two brothers were abandoned when my Pa got lucky and sold all his stocks right before the
big crash and made a fortune because we were movin' to England to live with my grandparents because when my parents thought that when my grandparents kicked the bucket, then they could have the house and live an amazing life. Well when they hit it big they decided they didn't need kids no more so they kicked us out. All three of us... we are the Filthy Jeans Brothers. And life for us is like a broken drinkin' fountain you can try as hard as you want but your not gonna get anything outtta' it. I think that it is best for me and my brothers to stick together a'cause those grown up hobos are suckin' every last cent that they can get from anything. So I'll just keep on movin' and all the while I'll be doin' what I do best... survive.

Image Of The Great Depression

This man as most definently seen a lot in his life. And now he has lost his job and is looking for another. He is not looking for charity, but a job that will support him. He is tired, hungry, and definently felling down and out. When I saw him I was surprised that he was still going, with the nation being in the state that it is in. This man was proud, he didn't want to beg to get food for his family or even him. He lost his job in the auto industry when the stocks that were invested in thier company went from 15 cents to 4 cents in one night and later that week the whole company went bankrupt. I think that this man captures what was left of the pride in our country.

My Intro

This eight grade year has been pretty Jazzy, pun inteded because I joined jazz band and we rock in a jazz sort of way. This year has been pretty good because my skills in a lot of things have greatly improved like my skills in stand-up bass and electric bass. Also my writing skills I feel have greatly improved. Sadly this year school year I have injured myself twice. I broke my left arm and badly sprained my left ankle. OUCH!
